Welcome to Kind Cast.
I'm your host Chazmith and I'm so happy you are here with me today.
Happy Monday.
I'm excited to start our week out together with a little good in the world.
I actually have such a beautiful story for you today.
0:28
It's one that honestly gives me goosebumps and it was shared with me by a listener who gave me permission to pass it along.
What's even more inspiring is how the story ends.
So be sure to stick around.
So this story comes from Megan, who you can find on Instagram at Next Level Neurons.
0:53
Many years ago, someone showed Megan an incredible act of kindness that stayed with her all of these years.
And that's the thing about kindness, it has a ripple effect.
Sometimes the impact reaches further and wider than we'll ever know, and sometimes it stays with someone for a lifetime.
1:17
By the time Megan was in college, she was airborne anaphylactic to a long list of foods and chemicals.
As you can imagine, her social life was incredibly limited.
She couldn't go near the dining halls, she couldn't attend events with food, which let's face it, if you've ever been to college you know that eliminates almost every event.
1:42
And she couldn't visit most of her friends apartments either.
She told me that while she didn't necessarily feel like she was missing out, she definitely wasn't able to have the full college experience that most students could.
And then one day, And then one day she gets a knock on her door from a neighbor across the hall.
2:07
We're going to call her neighbor Nancy.
So Nancy stops by, and mind you, they're not like amazing close friends.
They're neighbors, acquaintances.
But Nancy asks Megan something unexpected.
2:22
She says what foods will kill you?
She explains that she's hosting a party and wanted to make sure to avoid these foods so that Megan could attend.
So of course, at first Megan just says thank you and tells her that's thoughtful, but this list is so long it would be nearly impossible, yet Nancy insisted.
2:47
So Megan actually decides to give her a much smaller list of the foods that she could safely share airspace with, figuring that would be the most realistic option.
And you can probably guess what happens next.
3:03
Megan goes to the party.
Not only that, but Nancy also accommodated Megan's roommate, who had her own long list of restrictions as well.
So for what may have been the first time in a long time, Megan got to simply be another college student.
3:24
She got to laugh, make new friends, take a million pictures, and she stayed the entire evening.
And maybe the biggest gift of all, she didn't have to spend all night scanning the environment for danger.
She was able to just relax and let go and have fun.
3:45
When Megan shared this story with me, she said, it's been 15 years and it still makes my heart feel sparkly that my neighbor went to such great lengths to include me.
And I love this.
If that isn't the power of kindness, I just don't know what is.
4:06
Let's be honest, in college, so many of us are focused on ourselves, our friends, the parties, what's convenient, you know what's fun.
But Nancy, she chose something different that day.
She chose inclusion.
She chose compassion.
4:21
She chose to do the extra work so that two people could feel safe, welcomed, and like they belonged.
That one decision became a memory that Megan still treasures 15 years later.
4:38
I wonder if Nancy ever knew that it was going to have that level of impact.
So here's the part that makes this story even more incredible.
In case you were wondering, today Megan can eat anything.
4:58
Through years of commitment to healing using the DNRS Brain Retraining program, she slowly rewired her nervous system.
After two years, six months, and 28 days precisely of showing up consistently for herself, she reached a place where she could live free from restrictions and fears.
5:18
What an amazing reminder of what's possible, and hearing stories like Megan's is actually one of the reasons this podcast used to be called Our Power is Within.
Whilst Comcast has a new focus, I still believe we are far more capable than we give ourselves credit for.
5:38
So today we've been reminded of two things.
Two incredible things.
First, that one person's kindness can change someone else's life in a way that may never fully be understood, and 2nd, that hope is always worth holding on to.
6:01
As always, I would love to hear and share your stories.
